REMINDER: Give the Gift of Thanks This Holiday Season!

Hello folks! I hope that you are enjoying this holiday month as much as you are able to! While it is a different Christmas for most, we must do the best we can to celebrate the joys we do have in our life.

I'm popping in today to remind you all of our special holiday event. To celebrate the season of giving this year, we are asking you to create a card and send it to a health care worker in your community. To help you in this endeavour Sandy created some special images and sentiments that we are willing to share for FREE to anyone willing to join in.

Sadly, we have only had two people request images so far. Thus, I've made the decision to extend the deadline for requesting an image until Dec. 30th. Hopefully a few more of you will be able to join in.

To help inspire you...

Carol from our Inspiration Team is here with a sample

Special Event: Give the Gift of Thanks This Holiday Season!

This year has been a very difficult one for many people due to the ongoing pandemic that has reached into almost every corner of our world. Many heroes have stepped up to the plate to help, putting themselves into harm's way. One group more than any other, risks their lives on a daily basis since they come into the most contact with those that are sick: our medical professionals. Doctors, nurses, orderlies, cleaners and other clinic and hospital staff members.

Traditionally, Christmas is a time of giving. This year, in celebration of those individuals in the health care system, we'd like you to create a card and send it out to a medical professional in your own community who could do with some praise. You could send it to your own doctor or nurse; a family member, friend or neighbour you know who works in the medical profession; or, you could send it to a group of doctors or nurses in your local hospital. Odds are there is someone out there in the medical field who would be more than happy to receive a card thanking them for all they've done during the last several months.

To help you out in this endeavour, we are willing to provide you with ONE of the following three new images that Sandy has designed specifically in honour of these important medical professionals:

269 Brrr HCW

270 Brrrnice HCW

328 Carl HCW

You can also request ONE of the following sentiments as well:

0194 HCW Doctors

0195 HCW Nurses

0193 HCW Thanks

0196 HCW Thank You

0197 HCW Heroes

 Rules...

In return for your choice of a FREE image and sentiment, we ask the following:
  1. Create a card using the image and sentiment (if requested), for a health care professional in your local community.
  2. Please come back to this post and add it to the linky list located below.
  3. Leave a comment letting us know whom you intend to send the card to.

Incentive...

Along with receiving the image and sentiment for free, you'll also have the chance to win the full Health Care Heroes Set, plus there may be an extra prize or two, but that will depend on how many entries we get.

Scribbles Designs Challenge #41 - Tools of the Trade

Scribbles Designs Challenge #41
Tools of the Trade

Every good handyman knows the rule that you measure twice and cut once.  This simple but effective tip has saved many a builder and handyman alike.  It has actually saved many card makers too but I digress.  The measuring tape is but one tool that should be part of every laymen or laywomen's tool kit.  A hammer, a wrench, a screwdriver, a saw and a pair of pliers are all great tools to have on hand as well.   This challenge we want to see a cutting-edge creation that focuses on one or more tools that would be considered staples in any basic tool-kit.   With Father's Day around the corner, now is the perfect time to build a special card.  Or, go nuts and construct a project for that special handyman or woman in your life to say thanks for all the little things they do around the house; or, maybe you simply want to wish someone a tool-rific birthday. With lots of tools, and lots of project options to choose from, I'm sure you'll hammer out the details and nail it!  We look forward to seeing awl your projects!

And we thank you for spending some time here on our spot in blog-land. We're excited to showcase our talented women & their incredible creative work.  We think that you will enjoy the Scribbles Designs images
and the creative direction that ensues.

Scribbles Designs Challenge #40 A Little Note to BUG You

Scribbles Designs Challenge #40
A Little Note to BUG You

May flies, mosquitoes, and moths oh my!  The dreaded invasion of bugville will soon be upon us after their deep sleep during the winter months (well up here where some of us live anyway).   As the inevitable onslaught begins, we thought that this would be a good month to create a project featuring an insect of some sort.  Butterflies, bees and ants all come to mind but the choice is up to you.  However, please note that only cute bugs should apply--no creepy crawlers allowed!

And we thank you for spending some time here on our spot in blog-land. We're excited to showcase our talented women & their incredible creative work.  We think that you will enjoy the Scribbles Designs images

Movember Mini Challenge

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/074-movember-season-150.html
It's Movember--the hairiest  month of the year!

Never heard of Movember?  Well  Brrr and the boys are here to tell you all about it.

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/837-movember-boys-500.htmlHey peeps!  It's Brr here and I'm helping out Lisa and the gang today to teach you a little bit about what Movember is all about.

As you probably know, most men aren't as diligent with their heath as they should be.  Movember was started as an initiative to help bring about awareness to this important cause.  That is why the Movember Foundation was created.  It is a global charity committed to helping men live happier, healthier, longer lives. Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising over $677 million and funding over 1,000 programs focusing on four specific areas that my good friend Mr. Wool is going to tell you about.

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/837-movember-boys-500.htmlThanks Brrr!  While all aspects of men's health are important, there are four key areas that need to be focussed on in order to have a significant impact on men's health.
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Testicular Cancer
  • Poor Mental Health
  • Physical Inactivity

Now over to Carl...

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/837-movember-boys-500.html

Bonjour mes amis!  Merci Monsieur Wool for your lead in.  Did you know that prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canadian men?  Oui, its true.

Monsieur Foxy will continue...

Hello all!  Prostate cancer is not the only cancer that needs focussing on.  Unfortunately, testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young Canadian men aged 15 – 29.

Other than cancer, there are still two areas that need mentioning and Frank is going to tell you about one of them...

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/837-movember-boys-500.html

Yes Foxy, thank you.  There are two other important issues and I'm going to talk about the first of them.

Are you aware that roughly 11% of men in Canada will experience major depression in the course of their lives?  Depression is only one mental health condition that needs to be addressed.  There are so many more and that is why more research needs to be done.

Just one more to go and Porthos is going to talk about it...

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/837-movember-boys-500.htmlUmmm guys...why am I the one being chosen to discuss inactivity?  Anyway...Yes, the final key area that need to be focussed on is physical inactivity.

Sadly, only 1 in 4 Canadian men meet the exercise guideline of 150 minutes per week.  Ummm..looks like I need to lace up my sneakers a bit more as I'm sure the rest of my fine friends here today, do as well.

Hedgie is up next to let you know how it all got started...

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/837-movember-boys-500.html Thanks Porthos.

Did you know that Movember has been around since 2003?
Two friends living in Melbourne, Australia, Travis Garone and Luke Slattery, met up one evening for a quiet beer and the idea that sparked Movember was born.  The moustache had all but disappeared from fashion trends. Wondering whether they could bring it back, they found 30 guys willing to take up the challenge.

It definitely, started a movement and the following year, with more awareness and others coming on board, over $50,000 was raised.

"B" is going to give you a glimpse of how far the movement has come over the last 12 years...

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/837-movember-boys-500.htmlThanks Hedgie!  While the movement spent its first few years in Australia and then New Zealand, by 2007, other countries like Canada, the States, the UK and Spain came on board. Bringing the movement from 30 to over 200,000 people.

As of last year the stats were as follows.  Countries participating now include:  Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA.  There are now close to 5,000,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas involved.  This has created over $677 million being raised since 2003, funding 832 men’s health projects.

Our good friend Lisa is going to take it from here...

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/073-razors-150.html

Thank you gentlemen for your wonderful introduction on what Movember is all about.  I knew I count on your help to let our readers know about this important plight.  As you will have noticed, our gang has been busy growing their moustaches these past two weeks in order to help bring awareness to this fabby cause.  They even got together for a group portrait!
http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/837-movember-boys-500.html
You can help support the cause too!  Encourage the males in your life to become a Mo Bro or support the cause yourself and become a Mo Sista.  You can find all the info you need over at the Movember Foundation by clicking HERE.

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/11/072-mo-movember-150.html

One way to rally the men in your life would be to make a fabulous card using one of the images or sentiments above or one of the great Movember themed freebies Sandy has available (clicking on any of the above watermarks will take you to their location in the Scribbles Designs store).

In fact, over the next two weeks we are going to have a mini challenge (in addition to our regular monthly challenge) to help encourage you to do just that!
